New Hartford high hockey star Clayton Whittemore has been arrested in relation to the death of his girlfriend at SUNY Brockport.
Clay Whittemore, a key player on the New Hartford Spartans back to back New York State high school hockey championship teams, has been arrested in connection with the beating death of a girl Whittemore had reportedly been dating.
The girl, whose name has not been released by police, was found dead in a dorm on the campus of SUNY Brockport. Her body was discovered about 3:00AM Saturday morning. Whittemore was arrested about an hour later at the DeWitt rest stop on the New York State Thruway.
Police had released few details regarding either the girl’s death or Whittemore’s arrest. Law enforcement officials did say that the victim had suffered severe trauma to her upper body.
Whittemore played both youth hockey and high school hockey in the Mohawk Valley area. He was named the New York State Division II hockey Player of the Year in his senior season in 2010, when the Spartans won their second consecutive state Division II championship.
Whittemore did not play college hockey after high school, instead he played a season of Junior hockey with the Space Coast Hurricanes of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.
